Excused Absence: Absences are excused when a doctor's appointment is scheduled, and a note is provided with a doctor's signature and date, quarantine under the direction of a county or city health officer, or a death in the immediate family, or other appropriate circumstances with appropriate documentation. All notes must include a proper signature and date.
Students are eligible for excused absences in the event of a court appearance, provided that appropriate documentation is presented. Similarly, absences for college visitation may be excused if accompanied by documentation from the respective college. Finally, students may take time off for religious holidays provided written permission is obtained from their parent or guardian and documentation is presented from the activity supervisor.
Unexcused Absence: For an absence to be excused, it is necessary to provide proper documentation with appropriate verification. For instance, if one claims to be ill, it is required to present a doctor's warranty as proof. Other reasons, such as business matters, being out of town, staying home, missing transportation, or experiencing car trouble, are not valid excuses.
Parents or guardians must notify the school in advance or the day of if the student will not attend. Administration may consider a home safety visit if we cannot connect with a parent or guardian after several unverified absences. The student will be marked as unverified. To make up class work, students should email their teachers or speak directly to them and discuss the work they still need to turn in.
