At Kings Canyon High School we want all students to have access to the most effective instructional best practices and behavioral interventions possible.  Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) is a framework that guides selection and implementation of evidence-based behavioral practices for improving important academic and behavior outcomes for students.  KCHS was most recently recognized by the Fresno County Office of Education as a Gold Level Model School in May of 2019.

PBIS is a preventative approach to working with students demonstrating behavior difficulties.  The primary focus of PBIS at KCHS is to establish and teach rules, routines, and physical arrangements to prevent initial behavior incidents from occurring, rather than waiting for them to happen and respond.  Our PBIS positive reinforcements for students include snack bar tickets, KC Cash, and incentive trips/events, to name a few.  Students and parents appreciate that teachers care about student success and that they work to motivate students to stay interested and engaged in school.

Each month, the Wildcat PBIS team meets to discuss observations, surveys, and behavioral data and to action plan next steps to continuously improve behavior and overall academic success at Kings Canyon High School.  The team consists of both certificated and classified staff, students, and parents.  KCHS reduced the number of suspensions and office referrals of students in 2018-2019 by 40% and 80 %, respectively, as a result of our commitment to Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.

KCHS staff and students demonstrate The Wildcat Way in all they do.  We recognize that graduating from high school is not only about academics, but also about the development of strong character to prepare students for career, community, and college.
